I personally stopped playing at either generation 5 or 6. I think that it should have ended around then too. However, Pokemon remains a big franchise so it still makes a lot of money. Plus, there’s younger generations growing up playing it. They still make Zelda games but I know that’s different because you’re not collecting a continuous and growing collection of creatures.
So yeah, I think they should have ended it already but I see why they haven’t. Lots of people still play it.
Yeah, I'm a bit surprised that Generation IV hasn't been remade yet. Generation I was remade in 2004; Generation II was remade in 2009; and Generation III was remade in 2014; so, in a sense, we're 'overdue' a Generation IV remake.
Perhaps it just has weaker 'nostalgia value' than the first three generations, due to not being particularly near the beginning?

What?! I totally loved being clobbered by that hot champion Cynthia while listening to awesome music!
Although I dunno about the idea of Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing in Sinnoh.

With that said, if Pokémon begins to struggle at any point (and, right now, it shows no signs of struggling), then it probably would be better to end it while it's still well-regarded by a large number of fans - rather than limping along with fewer and fewer fans over the years.
I agree with this. I actually stopped playing the newer games after Ultra sun and ultra moon. Besides that the Switch is too expensive for my liking. I'm mostly sticking to the GBC games now
