As you probably know, I often shuffle around a couple of forums and sub-forums every few months. Part of this is because I've never succeeded at creating a layout I'm 100% happy with, even after nearly a decade. Another part of it is because the community and its interests change over time, as members come and go - so, I'm aiming at a moving target to begin with .
Anyway, here are the three suggestions I have now:
So, should I go ahead with these?
Anyway, here are the three suggestions I have now:
- Add an 'In The Home' sub-forum to Health and Lifestyle. This would be for, well, stuff that's found in and around the home. Two examples of threads that would fit into this section would be 'Scented Candles' and 'Bath Bombs', both created by Shiny Star. Right now, there's nowhere for these to go, so the former is in the 'Shopping' sub-forum (where it looks very out of place), while the latter is in General Chat. Threads like this could use a proper home, in my opinion!
- Add a 'Soccer' sub-forum to sports. When we first started out on the new board, the Sport forum had three sub-forums: Motorsport, Tennis and Racquet Sports, and Football (all codes). The last two were eventually removed, due to inactivity; however, there has been a major increase in football-related activity since then. Therefore, a few days ago, @"Jackster" suggested that I should restore the football sub-forum. I think we should do that; however, I'd call the new sub-forum "Soccer", because: a) I think it's clearer and more intuitive than "Football (all codes)", and b) there are very few threads about the non-soccer football codes anyway.
- Get rid of the 'Introduce Yourself' sub-forum. In my opinion, it doesn't really add anything: it's already clear from the main forum name "Members' Announcements and Introductions" that introductory posts belong in this part of the board. It was kind of necessary back when we had the 'Community Courtyard' section, with both intros and shops as sub-forums; however, those days are gone now, and "Members' Announcements and Introductions --> Introduce Yourself" is just unnecessary duplication IMO. Furthermore, it seems to be causing confusion with regards to 'returning' announcements: some people put them in the sub-forum, and others have them in the main forum. So, I propose scrapping the "Introduce Yourself" sub-forum, and having all introductions in the main "Members' Announcements and Introductions" board.
So, should I go ahead with these?
