Frederick and Lydia spoke to each other for a little while longer, but not about anything particularly exciting: they were mostly just updating one another on what had happened in their respective homes over the past year.
As they spoke, more and more couples filed in, along with the occasional single guest. Some of these coupled up with one another at the last minute, but none of them approached Frederick. However, that changed when Meriandra entered, in a gold-lined dark blue dress bearing the trident of New Atlantis. She hadn't intended to participate in the dancing - she had planned to just sit and watch - but, seeing Frederick without a partner made her feel sorry for him.
"Good evening !" she beamed, as she shuffled into place between Frederick and Lydia. "You three looking forward to the dance?"
