We've all played those games where something, whether a planned part of the story or a randomly generated event, took you completely by surprise! That may have been a really good thing, or a really bad thing, and I want to hear about both. So, what are the most surprising things that have happened to you whilst playing a video game.
NOTE: If this moment is due to a sudden plot twist that might spoil the game for someone else, please use the spoiler tags. You can still say which game it is outside the tags in order to perhaps encourage people to play the game for themselves / know the game that they might be spoiling for themselves.
A few moments spring to mind for me:
In Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call,
As an aside, Professor Layton games typically have amazing (and crazy!) plot twists, and I would highly recommend all of them for this reason. However, I picked out the one I was most impressed with. Close second would be Professor Layton and the Lost Future, which I might talk about later in this thread.
In Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure,
In Celeste,
In Football Manager, I was in my second season in charge of Birmingham and playing a cup game against lesser side Chesterfield. We were really struggling, having gone 1-0 down and then pegged back to 2-2 just as we were getting on top of things. Then, towards the end, the unthinkable happened. Our goalkeeper was forced off the field of play due to an injury in the 86th minute, with me having made all my substitutions. So, like any sensible person, I decided to put our target man Andy Carroll in goal for the last few moments, hoping that we could survive defensively for the last few minutes to take the game to a replay. Our other striker had other ideas. In the 90th minute, he scored a header from (as I recall) either a set-piece or a fast paced break, and Carroll had to make at least one save in goal to clinch us a 3-2 win. It was quite possibly the most dramatic game of FM I have ever been involved in, and it was such a buzz at the end when we won.
