Apologies for my lateness in covering this - been very busy!!
1st Innings
England 294 all out (Buttler 70, Root 57)
Australia 225 all out (Smith 80, Labuschagne 48)
2nd Innings
329 all out (Denly 94, Stokes 67)
263 all out (Wade 117, Marsh 24)
So England won the last game to take the series to a 2-2 tie. Jofra Archer (6-62) was the star for England in Australia's first innings, and both Australia's Nathan Lyon (4-69) and England's Jack Leach (4-49) made use of the deteriorating pitch in the 2nd Innings - getting lots of turn and being rewarded with wickets. Joe Denly (94) grafted really well but fell just short of a maiden Test century. It's been quite the week for him - his wife gave birth on the evening of the first day of the Test! As for the Australian second innings, despite a stern resistance from Matthew Wade (117) England's bowlers had enough about them to secure victory. On another note, it only took until the final Australian innings of the series for England to get Steve Smith out for less than 50.
The drawn series means that Australia retain the Ashes, as they were the holders. Congratulations to them. Reckon a draw was the right result, and I'm glad it means Stokes' superb knock at Headingley meant something.
