Since I liked Spirited Away so much, I decided to pick another one - and this time, it was Howl's Moving Castle.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting from this film... but, I wasn't expecting a European setting with steampunk elements ! Still, it was an absolute joy to watch: it was just as fantastical and whimsical as Spirited Away was, with the 'castle' itself being a particular highlight . And it had some loveable characters too (especially Calcifer, who was cute, but also scarily powerful!). The only thing is, I felt like the plot resolved itself a little bit too readily (the way in which the war ended was a straight-up deus ex machina), but I still found it very enjoyable, and I'd certainly recommend it.
Also, it's a bit of a shame it doesn't have a sequel. The story does leave room for one (and indeed, the original book did get a sequel)... so, maybe one day .
