So I'm surprised with everyone talking about history, cultures, and civilizations no threads were made regarding King Arthur himself or the legends surrounding both the king and his kingdom.
so here we are.
King Arthur was a king who's existence is often debated but nothing conclusive, yet the legends remain.
it's often thought he and his kingdom date back to the 9th to 10th centuries AD as indicated in both the Historia Brittonum's (History of Britain)and Annales Cambriae (tales of Cambria).
texts dating back to the 8th century and before don't mention him at all and this and conflicting accounts has led to many dismissing his existence as fictional.
Among key figures are the knights of the round table, the wizard Merlin/Myrddin, the father and former king Uther Pendragon, Morgan La fey, and of course Mordred.
one interesting tidbit is that Merlin was actually added later and was based on Myrddin the Wild, a mad poet and seer and had little to do with king arthur initially
Myrddin was a bard driven mad after witnessing the horrors of war, who fled civilization to become a wild man of the wood in the 6th century AD.
this among other inconsistencies and changes over the last millennium have caused everything to be called into question and it remains a hot topic of debate among experts in archeology, european history, and Arthurian lore.
thus I open this thread to discussion.
