Earlier this year, Gladiators experienced a revival. And that was a success - but, I thought it'd also be nice to reminisce about the classic version of the show!
This thread covers the following:
- The original incarnation of the show from the USA: American Gladiators (1989-96);
- The original British incarnation of Gladiators (1992-2000);
- Other countries' versions of the show from around the same time (including, but not limited to, the 1995-96 Australian version);
- Any spin-offs of these shows (including, but not limited to: International Gladiators, The Ashes, Springbok Challenge, and Gladiators: Train 2 Win);
- Any of the short-lived revivals from around 2008. Let's face it: they're not important enough to get their own thread .
- Any news regarding the stars of any of the above shows (for example: Wolf's unsuccessful effort in Squid Game: The Challenge, or the sad death of Falcon last year).
However, this thread does not cover:
- The 2024 UK revival of the show. It has its own thread;
- Any other concurrent revivals in other countries. Those can be discussed in their own threads (or the above thread can be re-purposed to also include those ).
Personally, I watched the classic British Gladiators as a child: I don't remember exactly when I started watching, but I know I was by 1997. I was very upset when it ended on 1st January 2000 - but I suppose it would've looked very dated had it continued any further into the new millennium!
