Well, there's perhaps some good news, in that this only affects the stores that Thorntons own and run directly. Their franchisees, which number more than 100 in total, will be staying open:

Sadly, it sounds like they haven't been treating their franchisees particularly well (if the store owner from the article is to be believed) - so, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the relationship fell apart altogether at some point...
