no but that whole reddit strike thing. you know, where tons of subreddits closed and there as a whole moderators vs community and that whole crazy thing.

Basically, it all started because Reddit planned to start charging fees for third-party apps to access their API. This sparked a massive community backlash - since many of the API developers had no way of covering these sudden new costs (and it would have made certain third-party moderation tools unusable). Indeed, many subreddits temporarily closed down in protest (some for a couple of days; others for as long as it took for Reddit to drop its plans to introduce those charges). Others didn't close down entirely, but did severely restrict the scope of their operations (for example: r/pics only allowed posts about comedian John Oliver).
The response from Reddit was both slow and tone-deaf - and they started firing moderators who refused to run their subreddits normally. With that being said, the protests didn't last forever: some subreddits remained closed for a month or longer, but they gradually fizzled out.
