Ligue de Hockey Junior C Outaouaise (LHJCO)
Quebec's post-NCJHL counterpart to the OVJHL is the LHJCO, based in the Région d'Outaouais in Québec's far southwest. As good as they might be, they are ranked relatively low both within Québec and within Canada. But it did achieve the goal of bringing junior hockey to a variety of small towns, although there are of course teams in larger centres as well (Gatineau has three teams, for example) and these are likely, but not guaranteed, to win.
In any case, here are the 2021-22 teams:
Abeilles Tueuses Masson-Angers (Gatineau, borough of Masson-Angers)
Avalanche Juniors Val-Des-Monts
Bleus Chelsea
Bristol Blast
Bûcherons SAA (Saint-André-Avellin)
Canadiens Cantley
Canucks Coulonges (Fort-Coulonge)

Marrons Messines
Montagnards Montebello

Prédateurs Pontiac (defending NCJHL champions before the split)
Ripon Royals
Séïsmes Thurso
Shawville Shock
Hockey North, East Division (HNED)
The final of the four Hockey North Divisions is the most successful in spite of the territory it covers. Baffin Island, the Québec régions autonomes of Kativik and Eeyou Itschee, Labrador, and Greenland make up the East, which has claimed the Silver Inukshuk twice, both different teams. Of the 22 teams, only six have no indigenous ownership at all, and all of the others are fully indigenous-owned, including both of said HN Junior C champs - the Mistissini Maple Leafs won it in 17-18 after an epic battle against the Behchoko Blades of the Mackenzie Division, while the Qaqortoq Canucks stunned the heavily favoured Churchill Nanuks and bested the Whitehorse Jr. Cavalry in 19-20. It is internally quite competitive as well, as it has had five different champions - joining Mistissini and Qaqortoq, the HVGB Fleet won the inaugural title, 18-19's title went to the Pangnirtung Predators, and the Ilulissat Hunters are the current defending champs. No teams from Kativik have won the championship just yet, but Puvirnituq was a finalist in 17-18 before being beaten by Québec rivals Mistissini.
With territories (or province in the case of Quebec) indicated, here are the 21-22 teams:
Aasiaat Atlantics (GR)
Baleine Blanc-Sablon (QC)
Caribou Puvirnituq (QC)
Choc Chisasibi (QC)
Hibous Salluit (QC)
HVGB Fleet (Happy Valley-Goose Bay, LB)
Ilulissat Hunters (GR, defending champs)
Loups Fermont (QC)
Maniitsoq Mayhem (GR)
Matagami Lakers (QC)
Mistissini Maple Leafs (QC)
Naskapi Nordiques (QC)
Nuuk Vikings (GR)
Pangnirtung Predators (NU)
Pond Inlet Polar Bears (NU)
Qaqortoq Canucks (GR)
Sheshatshiu Legacy (LB)
Sisimiut Seals (GR)
South Labrador Saints (L'Anse-au-Loup, LB)
Tempête Inukjuak (QC)
Wabush Wild (LB)
Waskaganish Red Wings (QC)
Ligue de Hockey Junior de la Rive-Sud (LHJRS)
Covering the southern off-island parts of Montréal and the rest of Montérégie, the LHJRS is not only the strongest Junior C league in Québec per the IHSB, but the second-strongest in Canada after the OPHJL's Central-East Division. Its reputation is well-earned. "There are no weak teams in the league, just strong teams and stronger teams" is the phrase Mario Lemieux used to describe it. Five different teams have won this league, and it's always been close. Most recently, it was the Saint-Hyacinthe Gaulois, who obtained the rights to use legendary French comic characters Asterix and Obelix in their logos... or rather, they were gifted them! It is also the only Junior C league in Québec up to this point to have had an indigenous champion, thanks to the Kahnawake Jr. Condors winning in 17-18. Small hockey city Sorel-Tracy also has a championship under its belt here, having won the inaugural tournament.
Always fun to watch, this league is at the cap of 32 teams for the 21-22 season:
Aigles Saint-Bruno (Montréal, borough of Saint-Bruno-de-Mondarville)
Blitz Varennes (Montréal, borough of Varennes)
Bombardiers Saint-Hubert (Montréal, borough of Longueuil)

Kahnawake is the only indigenous team in the league.
Ligue de Hockey Junior des Îles-Montréal (LHJIM)
Well golly gee, I wonder where this is located? The central boroughs of Montréal including its city proper are situated on a cluster of islands at the meeting place of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers, most of them on Île-de-Montréal or Île-Jésus (the latter being coterminous with the borough of Laval). This 20-team league is ranked fourth amongst Québec's Junior C leagues after Rive-Sud, Estrie-Yamaska, and Chaudière-Appalaches 2. It's actually a merger of leagues, as Laval at one point had its own small Junior C league. It's also worth noting, though, that last year's champs are now a Junior B team, as the Ahuntsic Braves got "promoted" in a sense!
Every last team is in the city of Montréal, Québec. Boroughs alone are indicated. For 21-22, they are:
Chevaliers HMRPP (city proper)
Cougouars Saint-Léonard (Saint-Léonard)
Delta Bruins (Laval)
Ducs Delta (Laval)
Dragons SDRP (Mount-Royal)
Dynamo Anjou (Anjou)

South Central Blackhawks (Mount-Royal)
Supersonics Dorval (Dorval)
TGV Express (Laval)
Titans Laval-Est (Laval)
Voisins Laval-Est (Laval)
Westmount Wolves (city proper)
Ligue de Hockey Junior Estrie-Yamaska (LHJEY)
Initially proposed as an LHJCE-2 after the LHJCE's promotion to Junior B, the number of applicants overwhelmed them, so they decided to ditch any promotion-relegation system and just spin off two new Junior C leagues, this being the more western-reaching of the two, covering the newly-created Région de Yamaska-Missisquoi and Estrie.
The 2021-22 teams are:
Armie Magog
Avalanche Orford
Blackhawks SCM (Sainte-Cécile-de-Miton)
Bleus Acton Vale

Sentinelles SFXB (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Brompton)
Tonnerre Danville
Upton Mustangs
Verts Acton Vale
William Val-des-Sources
Ligue de Hockey Junior C de Mauricie (LHJCM)
It's quite something that Mauricie could put together its own league without most of its geographical territory - remember that the Township and City of La Tuque take up the overwhelming majority thereof! 24 teams are contesting this season, of which just four are from the two major cities of the région, Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. Here they are:
Bleus Saint-Boniface
Brochets Maskinongé
Bruins des Batiscans (Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan)
Bûcherons Saint-Mathieu (Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc)
Chevreuils Hérouxville

Voyageurs Mont-Carmel (Notre-Dame-de-Mont-Carmel)
Ligue de Hockey Junior de Centre-du-Québec (LHJCQ)
The other side of the Centre-Estrie coin post-promotion, this league only has 20 teams as opposed to the LHJEY's 32. But it is still quite a strong league per the IHSB. Most of the région's population is located in "the Villes," Drummondville and Victoriaville, but the former only has two teams and the latter doesn't have any within city limits. Both, however, have several small-town teams close by. They are notable for being one of the few Canadian leagues that has reserve teams from multiple leagues on the same level, as they have one each from the LHJCE and the LHMJ, which they could not have done had the original plan of having one LHJCE-2 league actually worked. They also have a team affiliated with a minor-league team from a different province, in the Saints Saint-Albert du Québec. As mentioned above, the 2021-22 roster has twenty teams. Here they are:
Aéros Laurierville
Bourdons Saint-Lucien
Bruins Juniors Bécancour
Cascades Kingsey Falls
Cavalerie Saint-Germain (Drummondville, borough of Saint-Germain-de-Grantham)
Chiefs Daveluyville
Débandade Drummondville
Feu Saint-Ferdinand

Tigres Tingwick
Vitesse Horton (Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton)
Voyageurs Saint-Christophe (Saint-Christophe-d'Arthabaska)
Ligue de Hockey Junior de la Région Capitale, Deuxième Division (LHJRC-2)
This new league has 30 teams. Ten of them are in Québec City alone, and another five - including enclaved Wendake - are from within a very short drive of city limits! But never fear - Charlevoix and Jacques-Cartier are well-represented as well. They are a fairly strong league overall by Junior C standards, even if they only rank sixth within Quebec.
Acier Saint-Augustin (Québec City, borough of Saint-Augustin-des-Desmaures)
Archanges SGV (Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier)
Armada Montmorency (Québec City, borough of Charlesbourg)
Barbares Île-Aux-Coudres (L’Île-Aux-Coudres)
Canucks Cap-Santé
Chevaliers Charny (Québec City, borough of Lévis)

Québec Maurice (Québec City, city proper)
Rois Saint-Basile
Soldats Boischatel
Wendake Wolves
Their lone indigenous-owned team is Wendake.
Ligue de Hockey Junior de Chaudière-Appalaches, Deuxième Division (LHJCA-2)
This is actually marked as Quebec's weakest Junior C league, but it isn't at the bottom in Canada and is actually solid compared to many Old USA Tier 3 leagues. Part of their low ranking has to do with the lack of teams from its major centres, as Thetford Mines and Montmagny are conspicuous by their absence, although there are two teams in Saint-Georges-de-Beauce. These ratings are only preliminary though. We'll see. Here are the teams for 21-22, by the way:
Battailleurs Beauceville
Blaireaux Saint-Michel (Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse)
Blitz Saint-Éphrem (Saint-Éphrem-de-Beauce)

Rouges Saint-Georges (Saint-Georges-de-Beauce)
Royaux Saint-Charles (Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse)
Saints Sainte-Marie
Torches Saint-Gédéon (Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce)
Torpedo Adstock
Vipères Saint-Victor
Ligue de Hockey Junior du Bas-Saint-Laurent, Deuxième Division (LHJBSL-2)
Imagine the Québec Division being so glutted in the Yzerman Cup that it had to not only put its two westernmost leagues in a division with Northern Ontario, but it also had to send its easternmost divison - this one - to play amongst the Maritimes. But with the southern part bordering on New Brunswick and the northern part being fairly close to Newfoundland, it fits. It fits the same three régions and municipalité autonome that the top division covers, with a whopping 32 teams! Here they are (and all in QC):
Acadiens Madeleine (Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, commun of L’Étang-du-Nord)
Archers des Escoumins (Les Escoumins)
Argonauts Juniors Rivière-du-Loup
Baleines Sept-Îles
Basques Paspébiac
Bûcherons Sayabec
Chargeurs SAK (Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska)
Choc CSA (Saint-Arsène)
Colosse PDG (Port-Daniel–Gascons)
Cougouars Causapscal
Démolition Dégelis
Diables Rouges Sacré-Cœur–Tadoussac (Sacré-Cœur)
Dinosaures Nouvelle
Esprits Fatima (Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, commun of Fatima)
Évêques Saint-Anaclet (Saint-Anaclet-de-Lessard)
Feu SFR (Saint-Fabien-de-Rimouski)
Goélands Juniors Gaspé
Justiciers Saint-Antonin
Léons Cap-Chat
Loups-Garous Grande-Rivière
Lynx Saint-Pacôme
Maniaques Matane
Monstres Maria
Ours Outardes (Pointe-aux-Outardes)
Paladins SJD (Saint-Jean-de-Dieu)
Panthères Percé
Rangers Juniors Rimouski
Rocket Sainte-Luce
Sages Nazareth (Rimouski, borough of Nazareth)
Seigneurs Saint-Pascal
Veilleurs Pohénégamook
Verts de L’Isle-Verte
The Archers des Escoumins is by its own bylaws required to have at least two representatives of its eleven-person board of directors be indigenous, because of the partnership of the Essipit Innu Nation in the team.
New Brunswick Junior Hockey League, Division 2 (NBJHL-2)
New Brunswick was doing the promotion-relegation thing long before anyone else in the Robertian Era. But the league grew considerably last season, so no changes happened at all, much to the chagrin of the Miramichi River Maniacs, who are looking to be the first (and hopefully only) back-to-back champions of this division. There are a couple of teams that could challenge them, including the division's one indigenous team, the Elsipogtog Wolves. Here's the 2021-22 NBJHL-2 roster:
Central New Brunswick Bruins (Doaktown)
Elsipogtog Wolves
Grand Bay-Westfield Gulls
Hampton Hurricanes (Saint John, borough of Hampton)
Miramichi River Maniacs (defending champs)
Perth-Andover Penguins
Shippagan Sharks
Southern Sting (Saint John, borough of Quispamsis)
St. Andrews Storm
St. Stephen Saints
Sunny Corner Thunder
Sussex Shock
Tri-County River Cats (Fredericton Junction)
Western Valley Panthers (Hartland)
Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League (NSRJHL)
A surprisingly strong but still lower-mid-table 20-team league, which got four more expansion teams this season, including two indigenous-owned teams. Nova Scotia is one of Canada's fastest-growing junior hockey markets after the move of the Hurricanes to Halifax and the acquisition of hometown hero Sidney Crosby! Every kid wants to try to make the bigs now! And Mr. Crosby actually sits on the board of directors of this league, which is much easier given how he is based in his home city of Halifax, which has two teams, as does second-biggest city Sydney.
The roster for 2021-22 is:
Annapolis Valley Aces (Middleton)
Bible Hill Bulldogs
Chester Castaways
Digby Jr. Crabbers
East Hants Jr. Penguins (borough of Lantz)
Eastern Shore Thunder (Musquodoboit Harbour)
Glace Bay Glare (Sydney, borough of Glace Bay)
Kingston-Greenwood Bombers (Greenwood)
Membertou Mighty Men (Sydney, borough of Membertou)
New Glasgow Celtics (defending champs)
New Minas Terns
Pictou Panthers
Sackville Knights (Halifax, borough of Sackville)
Sipekne'katik Seagulls (Shubenacadie)
Spryfield Attack (Halifax, borough of Spryfield)
Stellarton Stars
Trenton Tigers
Westville Warriors
Windsor Royals
Wolfville Whitetails
The two indigenous-owned teams are the Sipekne'katik Seagulls, who split the team 50-50 with the nearby town of Shubenacadie, and Membertou, which is in an indigenous borough of Sydney and fully-owned by its Mi'kmaq First Nation. New Minas and Westville are also new this season.
Prince Edward Island Junior C Hockey League (PEIJCHL)
Perhaps not too surprisingly, this is Canada's weakest Junior C league per IHSB rankings. PEI hasn't seen the Cup too often, with just two players - former Tampa Bay player Brad Richards and Bruins captain Adam McQuaid - having brought it to the Island. There are ten teams in the league with no sign of expansion, which isn't surprising because you could fit the entire population of the province into the Quebec city of Sherbrooke and still have room for a few thousand people.
The teams of 2021-22:
Belfast Sabres
Georgetown Ice Dogs (Three Rivers, borough of Georgetown)
Kensington Jr. Vipers
Malpeque Bay Monarchs
North River Flames (Cornwall)
O’Leary Spuds
Sherwood Metros (Charlottetown, borough of Sherwood)
South Side Lynx (Crapaud)
Summerside Crunch
Tignish Aces (defending champs)
Newfoundland Junior C Hockey League (NLJCHL)
Gotta love those Newfies! It was their push to get Junior C representation that got Chaudière-Appalaches in Québec jealous, so you could say it was them who was responsible for the doubling of Junior C leagues in Canada to 42, which is more than the entire Old USA junior system from Tier 1 to Tier 3 has amongst five countries. It is not only Canada's easternmost Junior C, but it has a couple other distinctives amongst its teams, like having a team with one of the smallest host towns - the Insulaires Miquelon play out of a town with just 700 permanent residents, and there are often players that will spend part of the year there just to be able to play competitive hockey. (They end up learning French in the process, which is only a bonus!) Anyway, here are the 21-22 teams for the NLJCHL (from NL unless otherwise noted):
Bishop’s Falls Bumblebees
Bonavista Surge
Botwood Bruins
Burin Blast
Corner Brook Jr. Swordfish
Gambo Corvettes
Glovertown Whalers
Grand Bank Flyers
Harbour Grace Hawks
Holyrood Angels
Insulaires Miquelon (SPM)
Lewisporte Lions
New-Wes-Valley Wes-Men
North St. John's Fleet (St. John's, borough of Pouch Cove)
Pasadena Speed
PCSP Maple Leafs (St. John's, borough of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip's)
Saint-Pierre Jr. Nordiques B (SPM)
SBHC Ice (Spaniard's Bay)
Springdale Falcons
St. Anthony North Stars
St. John’s Jr. Growlers (city proper)
Twillingate Tide
So now that we've gone over the leagues themselves, let's look at how the Yzerman Cup is divvied up now that it has 42 leagues participating! The first stage is the eight regional tournaments, which are single round-robin:

Covering the southern off-island parts of Montréal and the rest of Montérégie, the LHJRS is not only the strongest Junior C league in Québec per the IHSB, but the second-strongest in Canada after the OPHJL's Central-East Division. Its reputation is well-earned. "There are no weak teams in the league, just strong teams and stronger teams" is the phrase Mario Lemieux used to describe it.

TGV Express (Laval)
Titans Laval-Est (Laval)
Voisins Laval-Est (Laval)
Westmount Wolves (city proper)
Ligue de Hockey Junior Estrie-Yamaska (LHJEY)
Initially proposed as an LHJCE-2 after the LHJCE's promotion to Junior B, the number of applicants overwhelmed them, so they decided to ditch any promotion-relegation system and just spin off two new Junior C leagues, this being the more western-reaching of the two, covering the newly-created Région de Yamaska-Missisquoi and Estrie.
The 2021-22 teams are:
Armie Magog
Avalanche Orford
Blackhawks SCM (Sainte-Cécile-de-Miton)
Bleus Acton Vale

Canadiens Juniors de Coaticook

Ligue de Hockey Junior C de Mauricie (LHJCM)
It's quite something that Mauricie could put together its own league without most of its geographical territory - remember that the Township and City of La Tuque take up the overwhelming majority thereof! 24 teams are contesting this season, of which just four are from the two major cities of the région, Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. Here they are:
Bleus Saint-Boniface
Brochets Maskinongé
Bruins des Batiscans (Sainte-Geneviève-de-Batiscan)
Bûcherons Saint-Mathieu (Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc)
Chevreuils Hérouxville

Verts Saint-Étienne (Saint-Étienne-des-Grès)
Guèpes Saint-Guillaume
Lakers Saint-François (Saint-François-du-Lac)

Tigres Tingwick
Vitesse Horton (Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton)
Voyageurs Saint-Christophe (Saint-Christophe-d'Arthabaska)
Ligue de Hockey Junior de la Région Capitale, Deuxième Division (LHJRC-2)
This new league has 30 teams. Ten of them are in Québec City alone, and another five - including enclaved Wendake - are from within a very short drive of city limits! But never fear - Charlevoix and Jacques-Cartier are well-represented as well. They are a fairly strong league overall by Junior C standards, even if they only rank sixth within Quebec.
Acier Saint-Augustin (Québec City, borough of Saint-Augustin-des-Desmaures)
Archanges SGV (Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier)
Armada Montmorency (Québec City, borough of Charlesbourg)
Barbares Île-Aux-Coudres (L’Île-Aux-Coudres)

Rois Sainte-Justine
Rouges Saint-Georges (Saint-Georges-de-Beauce)
Royaux Saint-Charles (Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse)
Saints Sainte-Marie
Torches Saint-Gédéon (Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce)
Torpedo Adstock
Vipères Saint-Victor
Ligue de Hockey Junior du Bas-Saint-Laurent, Deuxième Division (LHJBSL-2)
Imagine the Québec Division being so glutted in the Yzerman Cup that it had to not only put its two westernmost leagues in a division with Northern Ontario, but it also had to send its easternmost divison - this one - to play amongst the Maritimes. But with the southern part bordering on New Brunswick and the northern part being fairly close to Newfoundland, it fits. It fits the same three régions and municipalité autonome that the top division covers, with a whopping 32 teams! Here they are (and all in QC):
Acadiens Madeleine (Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, commun of L’Étang-du-Nord)
Archers des Escoumins (Les Escoumins)
Argonauts Juniors Rivière-du-Loup
Baleines Sept-Îles
Basques Paspébiac
Bûcherons Sayabec
Chargeurs SAK (Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska)
Choc CSA (Saint-Arsène)
Colosse PDG (Port-Daniel–Gascons)
Cougouars Causapscal
Démolition Dégelis
Diables Rouges Sacré-Cœur–Tadoussac (Sacré-Cœur)
Dinosaures Nouvelle
Esprits Fatima (Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, commun of Fatima)
Évêques Saint-Anaclet (Saint-Anaclet-de-Lessard)
Feu SFR (Saint-Fabien-de-Rimouski)
Goélands Juniors Gaspé
Justiciers Saint-Antonin
Léons Cap-Chat
Loups-Garous Grande-Rivière
Lynx Saint-Pacôme
Maniaques Matane
Monstres Maria
Ours Outardes (Pointe-aux-Outardes)
Paladins SJD (Saint-Jean-de-Dieu)
Panthères Percé
Rangers Juniors Rimouski
Rocket Sainte-Luce
Sages Nazareth (Rimouski, borough of Nazareth)
Seigneurs Saint-Pascal
Veilleurs Pohénégamook
Verts de L’Isle-Verte
The Archers des Escoumins is by its own bylaws required to have at least two representatives of its eleven-person board of directors be indigenous, because of the partnership of the Essipit Innu Nation in the team.
New Brunswick Junior Hockey League, Division 2 (NBJHL-2)
New Brunswick was doing the promotion-relegation thing long before anyone else in the Robertian Era. But the league grew considerably last season, so no changes happened at all, much to the chagrin of the Miramichi River Maniacs, who are looking to be the first (and hopefully only) back-to-back champions of this division. There are a couple of teams that could challenge them, including the division's one indigenous team, the Elsipogtog Wolves. Here's the 2021-22 NBJHL-2 roster:
Central New Brunswick Bruins (Doaktown)
Elsipogtog Wolves
Grand Bay-Westfield Gulls
Hampton Hurricanes (Saint John, borough of Hampton)
Miramichi River Maniacs (defending champs)
Perth-Andover Penguins
Shippagan Sharks
Southern Sting (Saint John, borough of Quispamsis)
St. Andrews Storm
St. Stephen Saints
Sunny Corner Thunder
Sussex Shock
Tri-County River Cats (Fredericton Junction)
Western Valley Panthers (Hartland)
Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League (NSRJHL)
A surprisingly strong but still lower-mid-table 20-team league, which got four more expansion teams this season, including two indigenous-owned teams. Nova Scotia is one of Canada's fastest-growing junior hockey markets after the move of the Hurricanes to Halifax and the acquisition of hometown hero Sidney Crosby! Every kid wants to try to make the bigs now! And Mr. Crosby actually sits on the board of directors of this league, which is much easier given how he is based in his home city of Halifax, which has two teams, as does second-biggest city Sydney.
The roster for 2021-22 is:
Annapolis Valley Aces (Middleton)
Bible Hill Bulldogs
Chester Castaways
Digby Jr. Crabbers
East Hants Jr. Penguins (borough of Lantz)
Eastern Shore Thunder (Musquodoboit Harbour)
Glace Bay Glare (Sydney, borough of Glace Bay)
Kingston-Greenwood Bombers (Greenwood)
Membertou Mighty Men (Sydney, borough of Membertou)
New Glasgow Celtics (defending champs)
New Minas Terns
Pictou Panthers
Sackville Knights (Halifax, borough of Sackville)
Sipekne'katik Seagulls (Shubenacadie)
Spryfield Attack (Halifax, borough of Spryfield)
Stellarton Stars
Trenton Tigers
Westville Warriors
Windsor Royals
Wolfville Whitetails
The two indigenous-owned teams are the Sipekne'katik Seagulls, who split the team 50-50 with the nearby town of Shubenacadie, and Membertou, which is in an indigenous borough of Sydney and fully-owned by its Mi'kmaq First Nation. New Minas and Westville are also new this season.
Prince Edward Island Junior C Hockey League (PEIJCHL)
Perhaps not too surprisingly, this is Canada's weakest Junior C league per IHSB rankings. PEI hasn't seen the Cup too often, with just two players - former Tampa Bay player Brad Richards and Bruins captain Adam McQuaid - having brought it to the Island. There are ten teams in the league with no sign of expansion, which isn't surprising because you could fit the entire population of the province into the Quebec city of Sherbrooke and still have room for a few thousand people.
The teams of 2021-22:
Belfast Sabres
Georgetown Ice Dogs (Three Rivers, borough of Georgetown)
Kensington Jr. Vipers
Malpeque Bay Monarchs
North River Flames (Cornwall)
O’Leary Spuds
Sherwood Metros (Charlottetown, borough of Sherwood)
South Side Lynx (Crapaud)
Summerside Crunch
Tignish Aces (defending champs)
Newfoundland Junior C Hockey League (NLJCHL)
Gotta love those Newfies! It was their push to get Junior C representation that got Chaudière-Appalaches in Québec jealous, so you could say it was them who was responsible for the doubling of Junior C leagues in Canada to 42, which is more than the entire Old USA junior system from Tier 1 to Tier 3 has amongst five countries. It is not only Canada's easternmost Junior C, but it has a couple other distinctives amongst its teams, like having a team with one of the smallest host towns - the Insulaires Miquelon play out of a town with just 700 permanent residents, and there are often players that will spend part of the year there just to be able to play competitive hockey. (They end up learning French in the process, which is only a bonus!) Anyway, here are the 21-22 teams for the NLJCHL (from NL unless otherwise noted):
Bishop’s Falls Bumblebees
Bonavista Surge
Botwood Bruins
Burin Blast
Corner Brook Jr. Swordfish
Gambo Corvettes
Glovertown Whalers
Grand Bank Flyers
Harbour Grace Hawks
Holyrood Angels
Insulaires Miquelon (SPM)
Lewisporte Lions
New-Wes-Valley Wes-Men
North St. John's Fleet (St. John's, borough of Pouch Cove)
Pasadena Speed
PCSP Maple Leafs (St. John's, borough of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip's)
Saint-Pierre Jr. Nordiques B (SPM)
SBHC Ice (Spaniard's Bay)
Springdale Falcons
St. Anthony North Stars
St. John’s Jr. Growlers (city proper)
Twillingate Tide
So now that we've gone over the leagues themselves, let's look at how the Yzerman Cup is divvied up now that it has 42 leagues participating! The first stage is the eight regional tournaments, which are single round-robin:
