Wow, I'm honestly surprised that women were playing golf as early as that . Over here, there were actually quite a few prominent golf clubs that didn't admit women until very recently.
In one infamous case, Muirfield Golf Club voted against allowing women as late as 2016. (64% of members voted in favour of allowing women - but they needed a two-thirds majority! Fortunately, a re-vote the following year ended up passing )
I heard that women could play freely in Scotland in the 1800s, just not on the same courses as men.
