Mum's food - Moonshroom - 12-15-2019

You know how it is... we can --usually-- get any food we want, any time we want, but there are some dishes that only our mums really know how to pull off, and thus we are in for an underwhelming time whenever we have them someplace else.

Whether this is because we have grown accustomed to our family's recipe or because the dishes are actually superior when homemade is entirely open to interpretation, but the thing is that we really do tend to feel this way when it comes to some meals.

My candidate for the topic is my mum's Spanish tortilla.

Whie much thinner than a shop-brought one, I find it to be a million times tastier and I really have a hard time tackling a restaurant take on this dish. My mum's is softer and not packed with hard potatoes, which makes for a much lighter lunch to have on the go.

What about you? What are some dishes your mum does better than anyone else?

Hands down mine does the best Spag Bol. She puts a few vegetables into it and the sauce that she uses is the best thing. Her mash potato is also the creamiest and most delicious one I’ve ever eaten. She grows her own crops too so that might contribute to the fresh taste sometimes.

As for my dad, he can do the perfect fried egg.

Uhh, I got nothing.

She for the longest time didn't use spices on anything, she just discovered "Marinating" (although its weird stuff like Greek yogurt), and she will use low quality ingredients because they are fat free and/or reduced calorie even when they are way more expensive.

She will also substitute stuff that makes no sense in the name of "fat free/low cal" like instead of oil for brownies or cupcakes or what ever, apple sauce.

A fast food hamburger is better tasting then one made by my mom -_-

My candidate is scampi and chips. Whenever I have it at a restaurant, I'm always disappointed: it's often nice, but it never beats my mum's home-cooked version!

My mom only ever made meatloaf & mine is better tasting then her's. XD My dad is actually the cook in the family & nobody can beat his beans & cornbread. Mmmmm. Excpet for me cause I improved upon it. Hehe

The only thing I miss made by family is my Nan's booze cake. Her's was always so good.

Definitely my mum's bacon pudding. Nothing comes close!

My mother is too mentally ill to cook for me like how she used to.

Breaks my fucking heart, lads.
