Close one world, Open the Next.
so I don't know how many people have seen or have not seen this incredible anime, I know I certainly was drawn in when I saw it about a decade ago when I was exploring cyberpunk as a concept.
so what is SEL?
it's an anime taking place in the ever classic 20 min into the future of science fiction, but also in our past given our relative tech from the time it came out.
it's about a girl, lain iwakura who in exploring who she is ends up saving the world from a god in cyberspace, though that's only one of many plots going on.
it's a psychological thriller that'll keep you guessing after watching it multiple times, and it is really really good because it's a show that makes you think.
also side note, this show has tons of references to apple, next step, BEOS, unix, etc as the creators were fans of the company at the time (1998), and a playstation game even was made back in the day.
it's also filled with all sorts of cyberpunk tropes without heavily taking in the style like ghost in the shell, akira, etc which just makes it more fascinating because it isn't a huge leap from the modern world, less so today than when it came out.
but more importantly the show has maintained a cult following on the net/cyberspace even 20+ years later!
Awesome Site's I'm a part of.
