Next update:

• Added a clump of trees in the warm forest;
  
• Redone the volcano, replacing the 'noodles of fire' with something more dramatic;
  
• Added a market village by the side of the lake in the desert;
  
• Made the ice cliffs more detailed;
  
• Added some reeds in the central lake.

I decided I was happy with the second and fourth designs of tree. Now that I've got those sorted out, my next goal is to fill in the rest of the forest !

Now another update:

• Filled out about half of the warm forest, and a most of the remaining cold forest;
  
• Added another village, on a couple of islands in the bay area;
  
• Added a fence in front of the orchard in the warm forest;
  
• Re-shaped the plains a bit;
  
• Made some of the hive hexagons a bit more detailed.

I'm quite pleased with how the bay village has come out . It does look a bit small, with only four buildings; however, this map is drawn according to a highly abstract, flexible notion of 'scale' (in which some pixels are a mile across, and some buildings represent entire streets )

The warm forest isn't 100% filled in yet, because I'm still not sure what to put in the unfilled space in front of the orchard. However, there are other areas that are more urgently in need of updating; for example, the swamp hasn't really changed since update #6, and the volcanic region (apart from the volcano itself) hasn't changed since update #4, so I'd like to turn my attention to those next .

As I said in the previous post, there were a couple of areas that hadn't been updated much recently (such as the volcano and the swamp) - so, this update focuses on those:

• Completely re-designed the cliffs around the base of the volcano;
  
• Re-coloured the cliffs in both the volcano and canyon regions, to be more consistent with the rocks there;
  
• Added a volcanic village next to the lava lake;
  
• Added some trees in the swamp;
  
• Added some tower-like structures in the hive.

I'm very happy with how my swamp trees came out - although, I think I also need some smaller pieces of foliage to complete the effect. As for the hive, I'm not yet 100% happy with how these new structures look; however, every change I made to them from here seemed to make them worse . So, I'll probably tinker with them some more, but for now, this is what they look like .
