Marlow spoke with one of the staff and was able to get his salmon cooking. In the meantime, he offered to buy an ale for Duane.
"Half-pint or a full one for you?" he asked, feeling it was a rhetorical question.
He hoped that Duane would at least be sober by the time the girls arrived.
