We've all listened to hundreds (probably thousands) of songs - and so, it's inevitable that we didn't like all of them. Sometimes, this was simply because the song wasn't from our preferred genre, or was poor quality (if you believe that objective quality even exists in entertainment ). However, on other occasions, we might have odd personal reasons for being unable to enjoy a song; for example, perhaps we associate it with a bad experience, or an annoying person in our lives. This thread is for songs in that category: because of events in our personal lives, we're unable to like them, even if we otherwise would enjoy them on their own merits.
I'll start with Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline. This song was permanently ruined for me one evening, when I was on the train home from a Christmas meet-up in Liverpool. A bunch of passengers, who were most likely drunk, were singing it repeatedly, badly out of tune, for the entire journey. They even got the lyrics wrong: they were clearly singing "Sweet Carolina" instead of "Sweet Caroline" . In any case, their drunken singing is permanently burned into my memory, and I can't listen to that song any more without being taken right back to it .
What about you?
