Back when we were young, many of us were spoilt for choice when it came to toys. We'd go into Toys R Us (or whatever other toy store there was), and we'd spend ages searching the aisles for our next favourite toy. Unfortunately, we couldn't buy all of the ones we liked: we just didn't have enough money! Or, maybe the timing was wrong: perhaps there are toys that would have been ideal for a younger version of ourselves, but we'd grown out of them by the time they arrived on the shelves. This is the thread for toys like that: tell us about the toys you would have enjoyed playing with, that you never bought, whatever the reason was.
I'll start with the Robot Wars pullback toys. When I was about 10 years old, I was a major fan of Robot Wars: the highlight of my week was watching people smashing up each other's armoured remote-control creations on national TV . I wasn't the only one - and so, many of the most notable competitors were recreated in toy form, allowing children like myself to replicate their famous battles. As you can see on this page, there were 19 of them in total: each one was about 10cm long, each one came with accessories, and each one cost about £10. If I had bought a few of these, then I could probably have spent countless hours of fun smashing them into one another in a home-made arena. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, I just never got into them: I never bought a single one . I just didn't have very much money as a kid, and what money I did have tended to be spent on Lego or Digimon, with the occasional racing car thrown in. Oh, well: I did build plenty of my own 'robots' out of Lego, so I didn't miss out on the whole 'toy Robot Wars' experience !
What about you? Are there any toys that you liked the look of, but never actually owned?
