I'm not sure what I thought a "Toonie Bear" was. Maybe some kind of cartoon character who's popular in Canada ?

Toonie bear... (At least you know the colloquial name of the coin though. )

Now one from Only Connect.

In the missing vowels round, the category was 'Assistants', and one of the clues was 'CRTN'. The answer was supposed to be 'Cortana'... but the contestants instead gave the answer 'Cretin'. However, host Victoria Coren Mitchell ruled that, because plenty of people have been 'assisted' by cretins, she would give them the point !!!!

(Somehow, I don't think she would've done that if it had changed the winner of the show )

Seriously... of ALL the footballers whom one could misidentify as 'English', the contestant had to pick HIM...

I guess she thought the Goal of the Century was an own goal ???

The letters game from Countdown is very simple: the contestants need to make the longest word they can, out of nine random letters. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, actually... quite a lot .

If you're wondering about the F-word... that's never actually been declared by a contestant, although there was at least one occasion when it was in the selection of letters. Neither contestant spotted it, but the host apparently did!

Now one from Pointless.

If you're not aware, the premise of Pointless is that all of the questions are asked to 100 people before the show - and the number of points the question is worth depends on how many of the 100 people answered the question correctly. (For example, if 13 of the 100 people got the answer right, then the question is worth 13 points; lower scores are better )

Now, occasionally, some the 100 people will give daft answers, and these are mentioned in the show. For example, take the following question:

L _ _ _ _ _ _ _ is the best medicine

The answer is, of course, 'Laughter' - and the contestant got it right, as did about 75 of the 100 people (I can't remember the exact number). However, one of the 100 people apparently said 'Laxative' !!!
