Indeed - sometimes the interesting thing isn't how much some places have changed, but how little some places have changed.
Although, this next one is much happier than some of the others. It shows the Baroque Brauchitschdorf Palace in Poland, which was built in 1728, but plundered by the Red Army after World War II, and damaged further by fire in 1976. Fortunately, between 2009 and 2014, it was restored to its former glory:
