Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt is in talks for a trial to play football in Australia, a club says.

The Jamaican former sprinter, 31, is negotiating a six-week stint with the Central Coast Mariners, a team in the country's A-League competition.

Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp said the club had spent four months pursuing Bolt, and a season-long deal could follow.

Football agent Tony Rallis said a deal had been agreed "in principle".

Mr Rallis, who has been involved in the deal, told local Sky Sports Radio that negotiations continued over Bolt's pay.

Wow, quite a switch :O .

If this is the path he chooses, best of luck to him!

Well, with a speed that good he might as well try. I've seen singers try do football before. Although, age does end some sporting careers early.

Wow, really?! I can't imagine they'd have any particular talent for it :P .

Anyway, it's official now. Usain Bolt has signed with the Central Coast Mariners for an indefinite training period:

Good luck to him :) !

Sadly, Bolt's trial period with the Mariners has come to an end, and he's leaving the club:

Apparently, he was impressive, but the deal "hinged on a third party", and no suitable partner could be found.

It's very sad if the reason is something as trivial and irrelevant to football as that. His presence in the league would surely have served as a major boost to its popularity - not just within Australia, but around the world.
