Crooked Crow's Nest Of Interesting Facts
Wow, this hasn't been posted in since Christmas Day :O . And, speaking of Christmas....

On Christmas Eve 2018, Burundi changed its capital city from Bujumbura to Gitega, which is a much smaller city than Bujumbura, but also much more centrally-located within the country:

(Us quizzers need to keep up with this stuff -_- !)

When the US military introduced its "Meal, Ready-to-Eat" (a.k.a. MRE) field rations in the 1980s, they weren't very appealing to eat - and so, they earned a variety of nicknames. Probably the meanest of these was "Meals Rejected by Ethiopians"!

Wow :O . Apparently, there was a re-enactment with a replica of it:

According to this, gold is worth $42,000 per kilogram, and the Welcome Stranger was 72kg - so, if a solid gold nugget that size were discovered today, it'd be worth around $3 million :O .

The Great Central Main Line from London to Manchester, which was opened in 1899, was deliberately built wide enough to accommodate trains from continental Europe. The designer, Sir Edward Watkin, realised that a Channel Tunnel might be built in the far future, and he wanted trains from places like France to be able to run along his line to Manchester.

The Channel Tunnel eventually opened in 1994, nearly 100 years after Watkin's railway line, so that was quite some foresight :O . Sadly, the Great Central had been closed in the 1960s, so his vision was never realized :( .

All British tanks since 1945 have been fitted with facilities for making tea.

It sounds quaint, but it does make a certain amount of sense. The equipment is cheap and takes up little space, but its presence provides a much-needed morale boost to the tank crew.

This figure - constructed entirely out of hexagons - is actually geometrically impossible. On a real football, the dark bits are pentagons!
