 US retail giant Whole Foods is out of plant-based Beyond Meat stock at select locations due to demand so high the producer can't 'keep up'.

A photo shared this week to alternative social media website Reddit, pictured a sign in store explaining the shortage.This trend was also confirmed by Beyond Meat Executive Chairman Seth Goldman in a Plant Based News exclusive earlier this month.

am i surprised? no, they should have expected the demand but i also wont be surprised when demand falls in the next few months.

Yeah, I think a lot of people have tried these out of curiosity (or because of the hype). 

The real test will be how many of those people continue buying it in the future.

Demand for the vegan Beyond Burger in Canadian fast food outlet A&W is so high that Canada is facing a nation-wide shortage of the patty.

The burger launched on July 9, in a build featuring lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, 'Uncle sauce' and mayo. Ditching the sauce and mayo makes it plant-based.

You know, having these at a restaurant might actually work better than cooking them at home. That way, I guess you don't get that awful cooking smell that some customers have been complaining about?

I bet it would, especially those that are sensitive to the smell of oil.

I however, cook it in coconut oil. It smells better and tastes better than olive oil.

though again perhaps it would take the most effect in actual fast food places where they experiment replacing the patties with the plant ones and see if customers can tell the difference.  though i imagine the employees might not like the smell either, i have not heard much on how it smells when cooked.

I think the issue with that is they constitute a lot of different foods, so you're more likely to run into someone with an allergy to one or more of them.

They have no tree nuts, soy, or gluten. The only main cause would be if people were allergic to peas.

Actually, there's a decent number of people who have onion or tomato allergies. I know at least one person with each of these allergies, and might actually be allergic to onions myself. Peas and pulses of course are another issue entirely!

Not saying it's a bad idea, just that it's not exactly marketable to everyone.
