When I re-registered everybody about a week ago, everybody's new account was set up by default so that they could receive emails from other users on the board. This wasn't a deliberate choice on our part: it was something that we simply didn't notice or consider during the re-registration process. However, after Chirrut Imwe brought this up with me a few days ago, I decided that allowing this by default was perhaps not the best idea. Sure, you can opt out of receiving emails from other members by going into your User CP; however, I believe it's really something that people should have to opt into, rather than something enabled by default that people have to opt out of.
Therefore, in the interests of privacy, we have set the "Hide your email from other members" setting to 'Yes' for every member. If you wish to allow other members to email you, then you will need to go into your User CP, then select 'Edit Options' (under the 'Your Profile' sub-heading), and untick the "Hide your email from other members" check box.
I'd like to thank Chirrut Imwe for raising this issue with me, and Megan for actually performing the change - and we hope we agree that it improves your privacy here !
