We have a few of these 'random trivia' threads already (for example, for science, history, and sports) - and this is the latest in the series . Simply post a piece of mathematics-related trivia in here. It doesn't need to be an equation or a formula, and you don't need to provide a proof (though you can if you want). It doesn't even need to be of a mathematical nature: for example, it could be something interesting about a particular mathematician's personal life. However, as long as it's related to mathematics in some way, it can go in here.
I'll start with one that's appropriate for today:
1) If you put 23 people together in a room, then there is a >50% chance that two of them will share a birthday. There's a graph here that shows the probabilities - and it turns out it rises quite quickly. By the time you get to 41 people in a room, there's a >90% chance that two of them will share a birthday - and if you have 70 people in a room, there's a >99.9% chance that two will share a birthday .
So, anyone got any more to add?
