The Pavarotti and Friends concerts
#1
For those who don't know, the Pavarotti and Friends concerts were a series of live performances organized by the Italian great Luciano Pavarotti in his home town of Modena, Italy. They gathered a large number of super stars from the musical and acting front and helped collecting millions of dollars for charity and worthy causes around the world. Lasting from 1992 until 2003, these were a joy to watch, and helped greatly to both give financial support for the causes they were defending and generating awareness of them.

Of course, there was some criticism surrounding Pavarotti's decision to sign pop pieces, but that's people for you. Someone is always going to complain about something.

That is honestly all you need to know, but I wanna tell you my personal story with these as well.

I'll never forget sitting with my grandpa at the kitchen table, zapping through the channels when the following came on:

We were dumbfounded by this epic image. Having the great Luciano Pavarotti share the stage with some pop group seemed sacrilegious, yet both my grandpa and I were cheering loudly before the song had even ended. It was something out of this world, and still sits alongside Michael Jackson's Beat It as one of the most tremendous musical productions I have ever watched.

I think a lot of it had to do with the smiles: this was no community task for Pavarotti nor the Spice Girls and the amount of genuine, sweet smiling they give the public and each other always makes me go "awwww". There are some things you can feign as a performer, but enjoying yourself this much sure ain't one of them.

Anyway, some of the concerts are available on YouTube and I deeply encourage y'all to watch them. You won't regret it!

Luciano Pavarotti and the Spice Girls: not a combination you see together every day  .

Myself, I'm not sure that their respective styles mix terribly well; however, it was still a pleasure to watch, because it's clear that they were all having a great time - and I can't really knock them for that!

Thanks for sharing this :D .
