Disney owns Hulu now
#1
The Walt Disney Co., which helped launch the video provider nearly 12 years ago, already owned two-thirds of the streaming and on-demand video service.

Disney had grown its share through its $71.3-billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox's movie and TV studios, which closed in March, and its $1.43-billion deal for the 9.5% share that AT&T owned. AT&T got that in its own media merger last year, an $85-billion deal for Time Warner.

That left Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, as the only remaining non-Disney Hulu stakeholder, holding one-third. (Comcast/NBCUniversal, Disney, Fox and Time Warner were early Hulu investors.)

Disney now gets immediate complete control of Hulu, according to the deal the companies announced Tuesday, and will pay Comcast at least $5.8 billion for its Hulu stake in five years. It could receive more, depending on whether or how much Comcast invests in Hulu over the period.

Nah, they’d never touch DC.
I don’t actually know what franchises Hulu owns. What’ve they even got?

So they now own Hulu, and will be launching their own streaming service late this year? :V Next you'll tell me that they'll buy out Netflix and then they'd own almost all the streaming services. (Aside from Amazon's...) It's funny that The Simpsons used to joke about Fox owning everything, and now Disney owns Fox. My have the tables turned...

I always hated Hulu, why pay 7.99 a month, just to watch 5 minutes worth of ads, EVERY 5 minutes! I felt like I was watching more ads, than the actual show! It was obnoxious to use this service, so I dumped them years ago. (I get the occasional email asking me to come back, and I'm like, not even in your dreams).

I wonder if Disney will change the rules or not, because it would be nice to use Hulu again. But with the ridiculous amount of ads they have for a paying customer, it's not worth it imo.

The heck...?
It should be a free service if they're going to run ads.

It should be a free service if they're going to run ads.

It started a free service, with ads, then offered a paid sub that was ad free (and new episodes of show would air next day, free was a week behind), then went to paid only with ads, then a year or two back offered a higher tier membership where "some shows would be ad free".

The issue with Hulu is that it was owned by the telecoms (i.e. Comcast, and some others) who started Cable TV as ad free in the 70s then at some point added ads, because money.

I tried HULU on our Samsung Smart TV and was not impressed. It did not stream well. Got rid of it within a couple of days and their customer service  could care less about any improvements.
