Reference Directory of Geographical Place Topics

Over the past couple of months, I've been starting topics about particular places (e.g. cities, counties or islands), both in the UK and abroad. I think it's convenient to keep a list of all the ones I've made so far, so that anyone who wants to say something about a particular city knows where to find its topic. Or, if anyone wants to make their own topics with the same format, you know which ones have already been done .

So, here's a list of all the ones that exist so far. For now, I'm just sorting them into "United Kingdom" and "Overseas", since there are so few that there's no need for any real categorisation beyond this. However, I'll probably break them down further as we get more of these threads.

Whenever a new topic gets made (either by myself or by anyone else), I'll add it to this list .

By the way, if you really want to do a topic about a place that's of significance to you (for example, your home town, or the place you went on your favourite vacation), then that's great: you'd probably do a better job of it than I would . So, if there's one that you really want to do, I'll allow you to 'reserve' it (by making a post in here), and then pre-emptively add it to the list. The only conditions are:

• Each member can only have one reservation at any one time, and;
  
• Once you've made a reservation, you have a month in which to make the topic, before the reservation expires. I only want people making reservations if they actually intend to make the topics!

I've also added a system by which members can 'reserve' any topics that they really want to start themselves, as follows:

Now that we have a few more of these, I've split the non-UK category into two: one for places in Europe, and one for the rest of the world.

Once we have more of these topics, I'll split it further as required - but, for now, I think these categories will do .

Also, I'm actually not sure which one to do next, so I'm open to suggestions if anybody has any!

That sounds like a fun project ! We'll have to think what the best way to do it is, though .

Perhaps you could write the bulk of it, and I could add little bits at the beginning and end, covering the city before 1800 and after 1945? (I'd miss out the final paragraph about sport/cultural stuff, since I don't think it would fit into this format )
