Thought this would make a decent thread. Post here when you've seen an interesting animal in the wild, or been to a zoo/wildlife park/sanctuary. If you've managed to get pictures, perhaps post some of them on here as well! Maybe you've seen a wild animal and don't know its identity, and one of our resident animal experts can tell you what it is? In any case, this should be a nice thread to share our love for animals.

I saw a robin yesterday - the first one I've seen in the wild for ages. It was perched on a wall on campus, and just as I had stopped to perhaps get a photo, it flew into a tree! So you'll all have to take my word for it. :P

I saw a couple of beautiful Fieldfares yesterday. They might be nesting nearby.

It was pleasing.

I saw two male mallard ducks today. I saw a crow last week, and of course dogs, dogs, dogs.

Saw this friendly black cat yesterday (or possibly the day before) when I was out getting the mail. It walked up to me and rubbed up against me, and let me pet it. It looked pretty clean, so I think it's just someone's outdoor cat.

On my 2 hour walk to church on Sunday, I saw a few more robins, sparrows and blackbirds. That walk has always been a fun one - once (quite a long while ago now!!) I spotted a woodpecker in the trees!

When I was in the car yesterday, I saw a black squirrel on the pavement. I also saw a cat missing an eye the other week.

(This post was last modified: 05-08-2019, 03:31 PM by Detective Osprey.)
Just yesterday:
Saw my first Mississippi Kites
American Egret
Red-shouldered Hawk (I've come to nickname them Shouldie, quite an endearing term!)
Canada Goose
Domestic Duck
Red-winged Blackbird, mobbing the Shouldie
Painted Bunting, heard only! Never got to see it...
Northern Cardinal
Common Pill Wood Louse
Unknown helicoid terrestrial snail (Helicoidea)
Millipede called Polydesmus pinetorum
Great Spreadwing (damselfly)
Unknown skipper (Hesperiidae)
Unknown spider (Araneae)
Common Water Strider
Common Whitetail (dragonfly)
Unknown dancer damselfly (Argia)
Seven-spotted Lady Beetle
Bee-mimic Robber Fly (Laphria)
Unknown forktails (Ischnura)
Western Mosquitofish
Big-eyed Toad Bug
Common Earthworm
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (too fast to get a pic!)
Gulf Fritillary (too fast to get a pic!)
Lone Star Tick (I admittedly was covered in the little jerks!)

I believe I frightened a White-tailed Deer, but all I heard was crashing of leaves and twigs, so I didn't get to see her.

I keep all of my observations that I got images of here.

I had to go through thousands of Poison Ivy plants to get some of these pics...

Today, I saw a massive wasp, which must have been at least twice the size of a regular one. It wasn't quite hornet-sized, but it wasn't far off.

I don't know how it got so big, but I was glad it decided to steer well clear of me!
