ZetaBoards -> Tapatalk Transfers Updates

On the ZB version we had a thread discussing the Tapatalk transfer of ZetaBoards which led to the closure of the ZetaBoards and InvisionFree services.

In said thread we discussed not just updates, but forum software and services in general which later split to a separate thread done by QueenZelda.

Since the news will still affect the TCH archive, and there are several here that ran or run forums on ZetaBoards, I figure it's a good idea to carry this over.


The newest update is a system email they sent out.

Dear Zetaboard Forum Admin and Moderators,

You might have received an email from us in past few weeks to participate in the Beta testing of the Zetaboard to Tapatalk conversion (If you haven’t, you’ll hear from us really soon). We received tons of great feedback and made many updates to address the issues raised during the Beta testing. Based on your feedback, we’re in the process of adding the following features to make sure your forum transition will be as smooth as possible:

* Customizable forum templates with enhanced BBCode, including div (with class), span (with class), iframe, form elements.
* Customizations via Javascript-like scripting feature to admin admins to further customize the user experience.
* Custom pages:
o Enhanced BBcode, embedded iframe or html in iframe.
o Form handling for custom pages. Forms can be created to submit responses into a post.
o View permissions for custom pages.
* And Custom smileys!

These upcoming features will be part of the Tapatalk Premium Tier but If you had JS or CSS on your board prior to the conversion, they will be grandfathered into the converted site. Also - if you already have a custom domain with Zetaboard, your domain will also be grandfathered. Some of these features will be rolled out on your preview board in the next few days so you can play around with them before the production migration.

We plan to start the production migration for everyone within next few weeks. If you find any data or formatting issues on the preview board and would like to have a migration support specialist to look into the issues, please reply to this message.

Gee, I sure am excited to have to pay money to do things IF/ZB/Jcink/Icy/Forumotion/CreateMyBB offer for free.

Saw this in my emails this morning. I'm not surprised to see ZB's core features shoved behind a paywall, but it's still *****. I doubt you'll ever see any themes or codes given away for free on the service as making them is going to require having TT Premium on a board to create them, so I won't be surprised to see any of those asking for payment by their creators.

I love how they look forward to welcoming everyone despite the fact people have either left, will leave, or will get moved over and rip them a new one.

The ZB support forum has erupted in outrage over the new email lol.
Stephen is encouraging everyone not to stay with Tapatalk in the long term, which I agree with.

Well, I'm glad that I had made a new email and hadn't signed up on other ZB forums to receive that, and that I deleted my old forum for the reasons too. How long with this rage and chaos last for I wonder?

Wait a second. 

Didn't Brandon's official announcement say the following?

ZetaBoards has been working with Tapatalk to create a free forum hosting platform that is a worthy upgrade for ZetaBoards.

 

If all of the 'upgrade' features are hidden behind a paywall (except for those who already have ZB), doesn't that that contradict Brandon's claim that he's been working to create a 'free forum hosting platform' ?

Technically Tapatalk is a free forum hosting platform. You don't have to pay to use it. However if you're going to start putting basic features behind a paywall, then why not be a paid host instead of a free one?

I doubt Brandon will ever respond, since he hasn't been online since June 7th and even then it's not like he has bothered to respond when he has been online.

What's worse is only Brandon can do the sales tickets, and there are people asking about databases who I won't be shocked to see neglected and then told "Sorry we can't offer that to you now" when their board is moved to TT and they bring up their sales tickets.

I'm so glad I deleted my zb forum before all this tat stuff came down the pipe. From what the angry thread added on the support forum has read, a lot of people there think a tat conversion will happen in July.
