Pelorosuchus(Monster crocodile)
Pelorosuchus was a giant among pholidosaurids, beating the previous record holder Sarcosuchus. These giants from Middle Cretaceous East Africa came in two species: P. gigas(type species) and P. dinognathus. P. gigas(Giant monster crocodile) was 14.1 meters long and weighed 13 tonnes. P. dinognathus(Monstrous crocodile with terrible jaws) was a bit smaller at 12 meters and 8 tonnes. Such large sizes were undoubtedly a reaction to the rich availability of fish in the region. Some individuals might’ve even scavenged dinosaur corpses. The thin snout has lead to ideas the pholidosaur was a fisher like gharials today but others think it was a generalist more like false gharials or American crocodiles. Pelorosuchus likely laid mounds of eggs that the parents looked after until hatching similar to modern crocodiles. The large size of this Crocodyliform has lead to ideas it was the apex predator of its time and place.
