BritBox

Looks like Netflix is going to have a rival, and it's name is BritBox, created by the combined minds of the BBC and ITV. However, people don't know if it's going to succeed or flop but, I should ask... why pay for it, when you're already paying for the BBC? Full story about it here (and there's a link there mentioning why it was being created, other than to compete with Netflix and others).

Thoughts, anyone?

Well, I'd be open to paying for something like this if there was anything good on it. Both BBC and ITV have massive archives of old programmes, which could be put onto this thing - and I'm sure I'd be able to find some that I like.

However, I hope this doesn't just mean that content which is currently free is going to disappear onto a paid service :( .

I think I still have a subscription for it. It's a nice app, I like it. Need to watch some more shows again. :D

I'm going to assume you meant Netflix for that, because BritBox is just new :P

No, BritBox is not new. I've had the app for a year now.

Oh, I see... so maybe it's only "new" when it will launch in its home country. I wasn't aware that it came in the US first. My mistake

Also @ Kyng, there is a list of what programmes will be shown on it along with the prospect of originals. You know, like what Netflix and Amazon Prime have done before.

No Mr Bean :( ? Oh well, I have the whole series on DVD, so that doesn't matter :P

Seems to be a pretty decent selection - although, as with Mr Bean, I already have DVDs of most of the stuff I really want, so I'm not sure whether it'll be worth it :( . We'll see, I guess.
