Coventry sack manager Mark Robins

Coventry City boss Mark Robins, the English Football League's longest serving manager, has been sacked by the Championship club.

Robins, 54, was in his second spell as Sky Blues boss, having returned to the club in March 2017after the sacking of Russell Slade.

His departure in the wake of Wednesday's defeat by Derby County comes after just four wins in 14 Championship games this season that leaves the Sky Blues 17th in the table and equal on points with Plymouth in the relegation spots.

Robins' sacking comes just over 17 months since he got the Sky Blues to within one win of a Premier League return, with Coventry beaten by Luton Town on penalties in the Championship play-off final in May 2023

:O :O :O

Absoloutely stunned and furious at the decision. Angry  He's done an amazing job for us and got us two promotions, got us to a play-off final, an FA Cup semi-final (where only a wrong referee decision stopped us being in the final).

I know we started this season poorly, but he would have turned things around, he just needed time and some new players. The past two seasons we started the season badly, and ended up turning it around. 6 fantastic years, then sacked for maybe 6 poor performances this season. He’s won 2 of the last 3 games.

I'm sickened. I can't believe my club has shown such disrespect to him. :(  After all the amazing work he did tranforming this club after the relegations and financial issues it had right prior to him joining.

He deserves a statue. Thank you for everything, Robins. And I'm so sorry our stupid owners didn't appreciate you.

Doug King is such an idiot for sacking him.

Yeah, despite the poor start to the season, this honestly feels premature, given the success he's had previously -_- .

Best of luck to him wherever he goes next - and I also wish good luck to his successor.

Coventry City owner Doug King has confirmed that Frank Lampard is among the contenders for the Sky Blues head coach's job:

 This is ridiculous and a terrible decision. If we get Lampard then we're replacing a good manager with a manger who has failed and acheibed nothing at the previous clubs he's manager, and only gets jobs because he's a big name.

Doug King is makinn bad choice after bad choice at the moment.

Owner Doug King also  spoke candidly at a Fans Forum, held at the Coventry Building Society Arena:

Ugh, that doesn't sound like a recipe for success -_- .

It reminds me of something I saw on a chess subreddit the other day. Someone asked something to the effect of: "Would you rather learn chess from Magnus Carlsen or Levy Rozman (GothamChess)?". And in my mind, the answer is very clearly Levy: while Magnus is far and away the better chess player, Levy is far and away the better chess teacher: he has years of experience of teaching beginners, which Magnus simply doesn't have.

It's the same principle with football coaches. The most successful coaches in the world are generally not the ones who used to be superstar players: they will have played at the elite level, but they won't be the Messis or Ronaldos of this world. Coaching and playing are two different skill sets: there's some overlap, but somebody who excels at one isn't necessarily going to excel at the other.

It's official, Lamprd is our new head coach:

-_- :headbrick: (These emojis represent how the fan base has reacted to this news).

I can't see this ending well for us. He's a big name, but a failed manager.

@ Kyng: That's a good comparison there! :) I like chess, so that was an interesting post to read.

You're welcome :) !

But yeah, I can definitely see why so many aren't happy about this. Of course, I still want him to succeed, but I'm not optimistic :-/ ...

Yeah, I'm not optimistic at all either. :(

I worry we'll have what happened to Birmingham last season where they get rid of a good manager who was doing well for the club and looking like he could get them in the playoffs, then immediately bring in a big name who is rubbish as a manager, proceed to lose a lot of matches under the name, then get relegated to League 1. :(

Doug King (The owner) isn't popular with Coventry fans right now. That's  for sure.

Yeah... I *really* hope you don't get relegated :( .

That'd just be cruel, since you were on the verge of being promoted to the Premier League not long ago!

Indeed. It's hurt to see us going from verges of promotion to relegation so quickly. :( Especially since in recent hears Coventry suffered financial issues and been unable to play at our home stadium in various seasons between 2013 to 2022 due to debts and ownership issues. :( We even had to play our home matches outside Coventry due to stadium debt issues.  It's been rough at times. :(
