Living in another country

If you had to live in another country, or maybe you moved country, which country would you pick and why?

For me, I would pick either Poland as I am half Polish or Australia as I quite like their politics and culture.

Probably Poland or Finland, as people are super chill in both of them, and are genuinely very flattered by the fact that you actually wanna learn their languages.

I have had both Polish and Finnish language partners and they both acted as if I was complimenting them with each and every chat. It was honestly really sweet.

Probably Norway, as I'm one-quarter Norwegian, and I've enjoyed my previous visits there.

Of course, I would try my best to learn the language. Almost everyone there speaks English, but I wouldn't want to look like a tourist for the rest of my life!

Canada, because the back of my mind tells me it's a nice friendly country even though it's under political turmoil right now. Plus the fact my uncle had emigrated there years ago (in Hamilton, Ontario, to be specific).

Also Ireland, just because it's in the same timezone as the UK :P

To be fair, we've had plenty of political turmoil over here too, so that would be nothing new  .

I guess one problem I'd have living in Canada, though, is that it's so spread out. To my European brain, 100 miles is a long way!

To be fair with you, I believe Canada's situation is worse, and maybe Jarkko would agree...

Anyway, back on topic, another country I'd like to live in is Estonia. Heard that it's a technological geek's paradise

TBH, for all of Trudeau's failings, he doesn't sound any worse than Boris's scandals and Truss's incompetence - although, that might just be a 'grass is greener' thing, and I might have different views if I was Canadian myself :P . But either way: I do agree with you that we'd best get back on-topic :) .

As for Estonia, I have to admit it's not a country I know a whole lot about. I'd be nervous about being so close to Russia (after what happened to Georgia and Ukraine) - but at least Estonia is a NATO member, which suggest the same thing probably won't happen there :ermm: ...

If we're counting made up countries, either my own Chingland or Corona, the Boiling Isles, or Nova Romania(NOT PANEM) would do fine but since this is solely real, Canada(I'll just try and appreciate maple syrup more along with deal with the cold with comparisons to the Northern Kingdom in A Song of Ice and Fire), Britain, Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, or Japan.

While it'd be fun to imagine something exotic realistically I'd be lazy and just end up in Canada or the UK so I don't have to bother mastering a second language as quickly as possible. I admit I'd have a bit of fondness for Scotland but it isn't a hard requirement.
