A Minecraft Movie (2025)

I wish people would stop making movies based on video games... it never works, and it seems that nobody learnt lessons from the disaster that was Super Mario Bros (1993) 😒

I mean, they do occasionally work out (for example: I thought the Sonic film was good once they'd fixed the title character's appearance). But, yes - films based on video games do have a very poor track record in general!

The recent Mario movie was quite good, and the Sonic and Five Nights At Freddies ones were quite good too.

But yes, most of the time they are fairly rubbish, and they have a fairly poor record.

This film is out now, and the reviews are... not terrible? It currently has a Metascore of 46 out of 100, and a User Score of 5.4 out of 10:

Don't get me wrong: these are still bad scores (nobody makes a film with the aim of getting 46 out of 100 on Metacritic :P ). But it's not "Worst film ever" territory, like I was fearing!

I saw this movie the other day in the cinema. There were certain parts of it that were pretty good. I think it is hard to balance it when Minecraft is liked by people across ages.

Nilla and I have tormented the Discord with Minecraft Movie quotes. It may only get worse once we've seen the full film.

Nah, I'd rather people quit making realistic fiction films. The critics are generally wrong and there's video games that can make a good movie.
Also, I'd probably see this-after wishing Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones got a turn first.

Well, as I haven't seen that film, all those references went right over my head :P .

You'll know it gets really bad once I begin to understand them  !

Apparently, one cinema has had to ban unaccompanied under-18s from evening screenings, due to rowdy behaviour:

Not good... while I'm glad the children are enjoying the film so much, they really should be allowing others to enjoy it too!

We had a group of teenage boys who were clapping and cheering at everything during the movie. The staff told them off like twice and they stopped when they were on their final warning. They were wearing suits and sunglasses, it was weird.
