Cameroon have been stripped of hosting next year's Africa Cup of Nations, says the Confederation of African Football.
African football's governing body (Caf) says it is because of delays in the progress of Cameroon's preparation for the tournament, due to start in June.
Officials made the decision at a meeting on Friday in Accra, Ghana, that lasted more than 10 hours.
Caf president Ahmad Ahmad says it will work to "determine a new organising country by the end of the year".
In a statement, Caf said "a number of compliance conditions have not been met" and it did not want to expose the Africa Cup of Nations to "any issues that could impact on the success of the most prestigious African competition".
Gosh, they really haven't had much luck with this. This means that four tournaments in a row have been moved, for one reason or another:
- Libya was meant to host in 2013, but couldn't because of the civil war (South Africa hosted instead, and Libya were given the 2017 tournament);
- Morocco was meant to host in 2015, but refused due to the Ebola outbreak (Equatorial Guinea hosted instead);
- South Africa was meant to host in 2017, but didn't because they swapped with Libya (and then, Libya didn't host in 2017 either because they fighting was still ongoing. Instead, Gabon hosted this tournament);
- And now, Cameroon was due to host in 2019, but they won't because of these "compliance issues". (No replacement has yet been named)
Côte d'Ivoire is due to host the 2021 tournament. When should they begin to worry
