Christianity's oldest religious book, according to auction house Christie's, has been sold for more than £3m.

The Crosby-Schøyen Codex, written in Coptic script on papyrus in Egypt, dates to between 250 to 350AD.

The book, believed to be one of the oldest in existence, was auctioned off for £3,065,000 on Tuesday, Christie's in London told BBC News.

Wow, that's quite an incredible find. I  hope the buyer looks after it and enjoys their new book.

Even though this is about a book, it's not the sort of book that anybody would read for entertainment (it's not even in a language that anybody speaks any more, except for liturgical purposes :P ), so I think this is really a 'history' story, as opposed to an 'entertainment' story. Therefore, I've moved it to History and Civilizations :) .

But, yes, it is an incredible find - and it certainly earns that colossal price tag. Whoever the new owner is, I hope they take good care of it!

It's so amazing that we can find whole manuscripts of this sort of age! I hope the buyer takes good care of it.

Hopefully they have already studied it or will eventually. Christian manuscripts are fascinating because we see how the texts we call the New Testament evolved with changes in wording, certain phrases added or removed, or even entire books the early communities saw as important falling by the wayside by later Christians.
