Google AI's inaccurate answers go viral

Google's new artificial intelligence (AI) search feature is facing criticism for providing erratic, inaccurate answers.

Its experimental "AI Overviews" tool has told some users searching for how to make cheese stick to pizza better that they could use "non-toxic glue".

The search engine's AI-generated responses have also said geologists recommend humans eat one rock per day.

A Google spokesperson told the BBC they were "isolated examples".

Some of the answers appeared to be based on Reddit comments or articles written by satirical site, The Onion.

I mean... I suppose one way of sticking cheese to pizza is with glue  ! Can't imagine it'd be very appetising, though :P .

But yeah, this is the thing about AI at the moment... it doesn't seem to know what's true and what isn't, so it can easily get fooled by joke sites -_- .

Well, I’m not surprised given Grok mistaking “Twitter” jokes for news as per https://tch-forum.com/showthread.php?tid=17893

But at the same time I’m shocked that forums haven’t yet been excluded by AI, or rather omly trustworthy sources being whitelisted.

There’s also the issue of fake scientific research, the link in which I posted in this thread: https://tch-forum.com/showthread.php?tid=17944

Well, if AI doesn't exclude TCH, it's gonna start regurgitating my Kyng sentences back at everyone  !

I detest that this feature is even called Google AI when all it's really doing is just regurgitating answers already posted on x website; to me that's just a glorified scraper rather than an AI that can generate something of its own.

I also wish I could just turn it off too. Regardless of whether the answers are accurate or not, I would prefer to just be taken directly to the website results and not have to scroll past an AI answer I don't care for as it likely isn't going to provide all of the info I'm actually looking for.

💯 agreed, and you can weed out legitimate sources.

Does this page help at all?

Unfortunately, I can't really test it for myself, because I don't even seem to have access to this feature :P .

Alas, it seems any of those features were already disabled for me when I went to check it, so I guess like the note mentions the AI in search results is compulsory. Makes sense given anyone is subjected to it regardless of browser. Seems like Google Labs just lets you enable more of it for some ghastly reason, or if you hate yourself.
