I haven’t got too far yet. I’ve just finished the opening scene where Haymitch runs to Snow’s mansion with the dead body of Lorella. It’s awful that his reaping was rigged and I already know from the other books that his girl and family will die. I really like Maysilee and I know that they are allies in the arena even if she is stuck up. I am enjoying seeing more backstory of the characters, such as Katniss’s dad, mum and Effie. I am looking forward to reading this even if it will hurt.

I’ve started reading the new Hunger Games book. Wow - my heart breaks.

Oh yeah. Waiting for my copy to come. Won’t be reading it yet though. Is it good though?

Mine came really quickly off Amazon, half price too. So far so good, like it really shows life in District 12 and how corrupt things are. I like the links to previous books too.

How come?

Because Hunger Games is dead to me. Died with Mockingjay and nailed in more dead with Songbirds and Snakes. Plus, reading the inspiration behind Hunger Games aka Shun Takumi’s Battle Royale and hating it meant even less Hunger Games interest.

The main series is better for sure. I think the first game was a work of art and I really liked Catching Fire too. It’s interesting because Susanne Collins can pretty much make an infinite amount of books if she wanted to as there’s soooo many characters. I think the nostalgia draws me in.

I got the Barnes and Nobles special edition myself. Should be here soon. I don’t really mind since I don’t plan on reading it yet.

I wasn’t in a rush to start reading it either. I think it’ll take me a while to get through it just because it’s not my priority to read it. I didn’t even realise the book had come out until I saw people talking about it on TikTok. The half price is what got me to buy it. I always wanted Haymitch to have his own book because of that really popular fanmade video from YouTube years ago. Even when I’m reading it, I keep picturing Haymitch to look like the guy from it. The movie for this will definitely be one to watch.

Haymitch and Lenore being soulmates is sweet. I think that this book was good to debunk people who shipped him with Effie. He showed Effie that the tributes were human, especially when he picked up her make-up box for her when she dropped it. It wouldn’t surprise me if Effie loved Haymitch romantically but he wouldn’t love her back.

Him being illegally reaped sucked too. Even though we know it’s rigged it doesn’t help the sting.

Mayslie is one of my favourites. I like her layers. Outspoken and proud but also a nice person deep down. Her and Haymitch are everything, especially when she saved his life. It’s hard because she knows she dies from the get go but I grew attached to her. Her poor sister too.

Ampert too. Beetee my man. Them making sure he didn’t even have a body to bring back. Although it did feel a bit like they kind of put a lot of victors in there to avoid new characters, such as Mags and Wiress being the mentors. I’m not complaining as I would rather this than them introduce new people and the circles were small. But it did come across as a lot of coincidences but also realistic. Same with Haymitch being best friends with Katniss’ dad.

I finished the book the other day. It was heartbreaking. So Haymitch’s family died in an ‘accidental fire’ and the gum drops were set up so he would kill Lenore indirectly. He was full up on Snow’s poison diet of bread… her dying promise too wow. Then Katniss’ dad singing at the funeral for Haymitch’s family, his alcoholism and the epilogue wow. I’m glad that he has Katniss and Peeta as they are a little family and he told his story. Katniss lost Prim and Peeta lost his whole family. It made us understand him a lot more. I couldn’t put the book down during the last few chapters.
