The title of this thread is self-explanatory. Cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly more popular these days. I guess you could blame social media for ‘raising for the bar of beauty standards’ as people feel that they are ugly within society. I also think it could be due to the advance in technology and what surgerons are able to do too.
So, what are your thoughts on it? Have you had any done, for medical or cosmetic purposes? Would you ever consider it?
Personally, I think that it is an incredible thing. People are able to get rid of insecurities that can affect their daily life greatly. For example, someone with a hooked nose can get rhinoplasty and feel more comfortable with their appearances. Transgender people can also alter their bodies to improve gender dysphoria.
However, I think that it can be addictive for some people, especially when you see the stories and photos of people with too many Botox injections or lip fillers. As it is expensive, people could also choose to go abroad to get cheaper procedures, which could be not regulated as well in terms of health and safety. That could put people at risk and leave long term consequences, or not the results that they want. I think I heard about a story ages ago where women got breast implants that contained a toxic substance or something.
Anyway, my argument is that it can be useful when done by trusted professionals. Some people can get addicted to it or opt for cheaper options so it’s important to be safe with it. It might also be worth trying to get rid of some insecurities beforehand with therapy rather than permanently altering the body. For myself, I have some interest in receiving cosmetic surgery. I would like some moles removed as I am insecure about them and I guess that can be useful for removing chances of getting cancer. I also have one other procedure in mind that I have wanted for years. I would not get anything after that though!
