2023 has come to a close - and over the course of the year, there were multiple people who made major contributions to The Coffee House, both old and new. The newbies were recognised in the Newcomer of the Year 2023 poll - but, pleasingly, several of them also won nomination to the main Member of the Year poll, so we could see how people rated their contributions against our established veterans.
In the end, the old guard won out - but only just:
1st place: Pyrite (7 votes)
2nd place: slooroo (6 votes)
3rd place: ZandraJoi (5 votes)
=4th place: Jarkko (3 votes)
=4th place: Shiny Star (3 votes)
=6th place: Cool Cory (2 votes)
=6th place: ~ True Legend ~ (2 votes)
Congratulations to @ Pyrite on winning Member of the Year 2023! This is actually his second time winning the award: he won the very first one all the way back in 2012, but surprisingly, he hadn't won it in the 11 years since (he finished 2nd or 3rd a couple of times, but this is his first victory in over a decade). And he's certainly demonstrated his worth this year, with his contributions to intellectual topics across the board, from science to current affairs (a particular highlight being his friend's bear-related life question that he chose to share with us). But if you're after something a bit lighter, he's also started a series of detective game reviews: there are two so far, but hopefully more to come
. All in all, a very worthy winner!
Thank you to all who nominated and voted - and, most of all, thank you to our seven nominees for their contributions to TCH over the past year (and also to those unlucky enough to miss out - because there were some great contributors who sadly didn't make it into the poll on this occasion, and I want to make sure they haven't been forgotten
).
Here's to an even better 2024!
