I've been thinking about a revision of the 'Sports and Media' section of the board. There are two reasons for this: first, to better reflect the current activity patterns on the board; and second, to give a proper home to some topics that are currently hanging out in places where they don't really fit.
Here's a breakdown of what I plan to change, for each individual forum:
These are all geared towards creating space to add the following:
Finally, after we've done all this, "Sports and Media" would no longer be a fitting title for the category: "Recreation and Media" would be better.
So, to review, here's what the new forum/subforum structure of this part of the board would look like:
So, reckon I should go ahead with this?
Here's a breakdown of what I plan to change, for each individual forum:
- Entertainment: Leave as-is. This section of the board is working well, and I see no reason to change it.
- Sport: Remove the tennis and football sub-forums. They have six topics each, putting them among the least active sub-forums on the entire board. Furthermore, the only real activity in the tennis sub-forum was in the Wimbledon and US Open threads, and the only real activity in the football sub-forum is in the 2018 FIFA World Cup thread (and that tournament's been finished for over three months now).
- Nintendo: Either leave as-is, or make it a sub-forum of General Gaming. I'm torn on this: on the one hand, it has a decent amount of activity (377 posts), and it's of particular interest to several members. On the other hand, Nintendo + General Gaming have a combined total of 922 posts, which is roughly on par with Entertainment (996 posts).
- General Gaming: If making 'Nintendo' a sub-forum of this, then change the forum name to just 'Gaming'. Otherwise, leave as-is.
These are all geared towards creating space to add the following:
- Recreation Station: A board for any recreation-oriented topics that don't fit into entertainment, sports, or gaming. For example, we have a fair number of threads about shops and shopping, some of which are currently in Health and Lifestyle, and others of which are in Current Events and Politics. They don't fit particularly well in those boards, but right now they can't reasonably go anywhere else. So, I propose making a new 'Shopping' sub-forum within Recreation Station, and moving all of these threads here. I'd also add 'Leisure and Playtime' as a sub-forum of Recreation Station, so that it's no longer stuck in General Chat, although I would probably re-name it to something like 'Toys and Games', since that's all that's discussed here. (I assume it's clear from context that the games in 'Toys and Games' are not video games, but if people start getting confused, we can change this name again at a later date!)
Finally, after we've done all this, "Sports and Media" would no longer be a fitting title for the category: "Recreation and Media" would be better.
So, to review, here's what the new forum/subforum structure of this part of the board would look like:
Quote:Recreation and Media
- Entertainment
- TV and Movies
- Music

So, reckon I should go ahead with this?
