Mum asks men for 500-word date applications

A singleton was inundated when she demanded men send a 500-word essay applying to date with her - but is still looking for love. Lauren Kempton, 36, wrote a post on her Hinge dating profile as a "bit of a joke" - requesting anyone who wanted to date her had to send an application first.

Fed up of "horrendous" dating experiences after two years of being single, the mum-of-one asked men to "write a 500-word essay on how you will not waste any time". Lauren got several responses - including a stand-out application from one man who even made an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Despite going on a date with the 'winning' match, she said it never took off and she remains single - and is now taking time away from dating apps.

Wow, I'm surprised she got any applications at all... I certainly wouldn't do anything like this! It's taking something that's supposed to be romantic, and turning it into a job application -_- .

Of course, it's up to her how she does it - but, I can't really see this approach succeeding.

I do think this is a good idea. Apps like Hinge are better than Tinder as you can add more to your profile to do with your personality. Means you can get creative. It does make a profile stand out things like this.

Yeah, that does at least sound better. I'd never use either app - but, I do need more to go on than just looks.

As for whether the applications are a good idea... I guess it's a good idea if the sort of man she wants to attract is the sort of man who's willing to fill out a 500-word application  .

Saw the title "That sounds like some bullocks a teacher would do having a word count"
Turns out She is a teacher based on her Twitter profile (which has been inactive since fall of last year, twitter profile pic and the articles picture of her are the same image).

Also this screams of "washed up 'celebrity' trying to get people talking about them again" it appears she was on some UK dating show about a year ago....

500 words is like two paragraphs when you think about it and you wouldn't have to use all of the words. It's a good way to gauge who someone is, their writing style, their interests etc.

Hinge is like... you have pictures. There's an option to do a voice recording, post a video of yourself, polls etc. People match with you based on aspects of your profile. Tinder is just a bio and some pictures. Quality is better than quantity.
