Advertising rules update (19/01/2023)

Ever since we opened, we have allowed members to advertise their personal websites and forums, either in their signature or in a dedicated sub-forum. These features were intended to be used for personal, non-commercial websites: they were never intended for people to advertise commercial businesses. However, due to an oversight on our part, the rules never actually said that advertising commercial businesses was prohibited.

Therefore, I have updated the 'Advertising' section of the Board Guidelines to add an explicit prohibition of any commercial advertising (with a narrow exception for small-scale personalised services, like the art commissions or forum-related services that several members have sold either on here or on their own sites):

Advertising

Please do not advertise commercial products or services on here. Exceptions may be made for informal small-scale commercial activity of a personal nature (e.g. art commissions or posting packages); however, advertising of any organised business is prohibited.

Personal websites/forums may be advertised in your avatar or signature - or, if you have at least 20 posts, in the "Your Sites and Forums" section. However, advertising elsewhere on the forum is forbidden - as is advertising in PMs (unless you have that person's consent).
