Apple to make Mac with touchscreen?

Apple is working on Macs with touchscreens, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While it’s uncertain whether the devices will actually come to market, Gurman says in a tweet that we could see a touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as 2025. The report also notes that the screens may use OLED technology, as opposed to the Mini LED displays that are currently in the 14- and 16-inch models.

The project seems to be in relatively early stages, with engineers being “actively engaged,” according to the report. Gurman says that there are no final plans for launching touchscreen Macs and that plans could always change — we’ve seen Apple scrap projects before, and the company has made prototype Macs with touchscreens that never saw the light of day, according to Craig Federighi.

Gurman says the rumored MacBook Pro would include other updates but would more or less retain the same form factor as current models; you’d just be able to tap and gesture on the screen.

So, Macs and touchscreens... a combination of two things I don't have much interest in Rofl ! But I'm sure plenty of people will be interested, assuming it gets made.

What about you?

Actually... back when the rumors that Apple was making a tablet* (c. 2008-2010) there was high demand and hype for such a thing, as demonstrated by after market mods like the modbook. Apple actually got a lot of crap by people for the iPad when first announce, and for the first few years.

Honestly I am not fully surprise by this as Apple has been working more and more to merge iOS and OSX/MacOS, with the M1 chip being one of the more notable moves outside of OS changes.

*For you gen Zers and younger millenniums until the ipad a "tablet" was a laptop that had a touchscreen, often the screen was able to be flipped 180 degrees. Now get off my law ya darn kids

I know this is irrelevant but I've had experience with a touch screen Windows laptop and it went hell. It was marketed as being super sophisticated and that's why my dad got it for me. It had a lot of problems since day 1. I know it's a different thing and this is Apple we're talking about, so, maybe it would be better, but it gives me some kind of trauma :P

Exact same thing happened to me.

Thing got a BSOD after DAY 2 and became useless by the end of the year... I'm also convinced that it messed up one of my SD Cards as well.

Yeah I had a pc laptop that was a touch screen. It definitely had a lot of problems.
Got a BSOD within a couple of months.
My current pc is a surface pro and it works well. Have not had any problems.

I am a pc and mac user.
I would not be opposed from apple making something like the surface pro where you can use a stylus.
It would sell very well I think.

Yeah, that's the issue with "super sophisticated" things... the more complex they are, the more things there are that can go wrong -_- !

With that being said, if this Mac does come out, I hope it doesn't suffer from the same issue.

I don't think they will do it just because they would lose so much business. By not having a touchscreen or 2 in 1 feature, there is so much more of a push to buy an iPad or own multiple apple products. I am one who has fallen into the trap

There is very little chance that we will see touchscreen Macs. Even if they get the form factor right, there is the question of software compatibility. The Macintosh operating system is not designed for touchscreens.
