Some of the greatest Pokémon players in the world are in London for the Pokémon World Championships.

It's the biggest and most important Pokémon tournament around, where some of the very best trainers compete for the title of world champion.

Thousands of Pokémon fans have gathered in the capital for the event which takes place from 18 August to 21 August.

This Year's World Championships is the first for three years.

It's also the first Pokémon World Championships event to be hosted in Europe and only the second time it's ever been held outside of the USA.

I have to admit, I wasn't aware that this was even a thing  . However, the fact that it wasn't held in 2020 or 2021 would probably explain why I haven't heard anything about it recently.

Good luck to all the participants :) !

I didn't know these big Pokemon events were still a thing past the early '00s.  It's quite fun it's happening in London.

Yeah, there was a Pokémon Go event in Chester a few years ago. Certainly not on the scale of the World Championships, but it does show that big Pokémon events are still a thing (and are most likely here to stay :P ).

Though, I do have to wonder exactly what it takes to be World Champion in Pokémon - and exactly what skills you'd need to have!

They were gonna have a Pokémon event at Sefton Park in Liverpool before lockdown hit too. Got cancelled and people could do it remotely.

Pretty good idea though as it brings everyone together etc.

Well, I'm glad people could still do it remotely... not the same as in-person, but certainly better than nothing :) .

Anyway, back to the World Championships... the TCG Masters Division title was won using a Flying Pikachu, widely considered to be complete rubbish:

Perhaps this will improve people's opinions of that card  ?
