A pill that claims to prevent hangovers has gone on sale in the UK, but experts are sceptical.
Swedish brand Myrkl says it is the first product in history to break down alcohol effectively, reporting that up to 70 per cent of alcohol in the body can be broken down by the pill after just 60 minutes.
The anti-hangover supplement is currently only available to buy online, at £30 for 30 pills, and consists of two pills.
According to Myrkl, the first tablet is designed to be taken 12 hours before drinking, while the second should be taken an hour before a night of drinking begins.
Last month, researchers from Myrkl’s manufacturer, pharmaceutical firm De Faire Medical as well as the Pfützner Science and Health Institute in Mainz, published a paper demonstrating that taking the tablets before drinking reduced alcohol concentration in the body by half within 30 minutes of having a drink.
Hmmm... I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand, this does sound very useful for people who often suffer hangovers - but on the other, it just sounds as though it'll encourage irresponsible drinking .
Either way, I won't be getting any, since I don't really drink enough alcohol to get hangovers anyway .
