Most successful shows get renewed for a second series - and a third, and possibly many more after that. But not every good show gets a second series: some of them aren't very popular, and others wrap everything up nicely at the end of their one and only series, so there's no reason to make a second. But, whatever the reason, what are some of the best shows that only got one series?

I'll start with The Queen's Gambit. This was a seven-episode series that told the story of fictional chess prodigy Beth Harmon, her coming of age, and her rise to the top of the chess world. It was massively successful, but there's no official announcement of a second series. And, to be honest, I think it's best left as a one-series show: by the end of the first series, it's told the story it set out to tell, and there isn't really anywhere else to take it. In the words of the show's executive producer: "It’s wonderful to know that people loved the show where they want to spend more time with these characters; we never envisioned it that way. We felt that the series had a satisfying endpoint and we’d allow the audience to fill in the spaces as to what happens next for Beth Harmon."

So, can you think of any more great shows that only got one series - and, for one reason or another, look unlikely to get any more?

I was actually very thrilled to see the series Obi-Wan Kenobi out as a six-episode mini-series on Disney+. Well, I don't have a subscription but normally watch it view stream services online.  I am a huge Ewan McGregor fan.

Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard good things about it :D !

(Although, what are the chances it'll be renewed for a second series? Like I said, I haven't seen it, so I don't know whether the ending leaves room for a second series... but, given how popular it is, I expect it'll happen if there's any room for it to happen)
