One thing I've noticed recently is that some RPGs have been moving at an extremely slow pace - often not being posted in for a fortnight or longer, or taking a year to progress to the next page.
Of course, part of this is because some members have busy lives, and not everyone can post at the same rate. However, it's also a fact that every RPG moves at the rate of its slowest member - and, if the slowest member is too slow, then that's simply not fair on the other participants. Besides, if a member takes several weeks to post, then the next poster after them will likely have forgotten where they were (and will have to read back several posts to remind themselves), which isn't fun for them.
Like I said, I understand that not everyone can post every day: some members are too busy for that. However, posting once a week is not a lot to ask: without this, the RPG will simply grind to an interminable halt for everyone. Therefore, I am instituting the following rules, to allow hosts to skip turns, or simply boot members who fall inactive.
Rules for skipping turns and booting members
1. Inactive members are to be given two chances to post before being booted from the RPG, as follows:
Note that this only applies to RPGs with three or more people. In an RPG with two members, the host can still @mention the other player, but they can't boot them (because if they did, then they wouldn't really have an RPG any more
).
2. If you think you'll be unable to post within 7 days, then leave a note, either in the RPG itself or in the OOC Discussion thread. If you do this, specifying an expected return date, then you will be immune from booting until 7 days after that date (although, all of your turns will automatically be skipped until your expected return date, to allow the RPG to continue smoothly in your absence).
Rules for archiving RPGs
3. If an RPG falls inactive for 30 days, then any mod or admin has the right to archive it. This is to stop inactive RPGs from clogging up the board index.
4. Anybody involved in an archived RPG has the right to request that it be revived. If the host is still interested in hosting it, then it will be revived, and everyone will continue from where they were. (However, if the original host is no longer interested, then it's best just to start a new RPG instead)
5. If an archived RPG is revived, and then nobody makes an in-character post in it for 7 days, then it will be returned to the archives. There's no point in requesting for RPGs to be revived, and then not posting in them when they are.
Now, we can't really boot members for past inactivity, when these guidelines weren't in force - therefore, there will be a grace period of 7 days, during which no skippings or bootings will take place. After that, hosts will gain the right to skip turns, and boot inactive members of their RPGs.
If you have any questions about skipping, booting, or archiving, then feel free to ask here. Otherwise, enjoy the RPGs (and make sure you're active enough for other members to be able to enjoy them as well!)

1. Inactive members are to be given two chances to post before being booted from the RPG, as follows:
- At any point, the host may @mention the person whose turn it is, to let them know it's their turn. Don't do this too often: it's worth doing if the person hasn't posted for several days, or doing it immediately if the previous poster was slow - but doing it constantly will just get irritating. This preference will vary from person to person, so play it by ear.
- If the person doesn't take their turn within 7 days of being mentioned, then the host may @mention them again, warning them that they are at risk of being booted for inactivity. After this warning, other members may carry on with the RPG, while they're waiting for the inactive member to take their turn.
- Finally, if the member doesn't post within a further 7 days, then the host may boot them from the RPG for inactivity. The booted member may apply to re-join the RPG, but the host is not obliged to accept - especially if they'd already been booted and let back in previously, or the booting took place a long time ago and the RPG has moved on too far.
Note that this only applies to RPGs with three or more people. In an RPG with two members, the host can still @mention the other player, but they can't boot them (because if they did, then they wouldn't really have an RPG any more
