Last mathematical calculation you did?

Simple question here: what was the last mathematical calculation you did?

I calculated the powers of 2 up to and including 223 = 8,388,608. I think those are useful 'landmark numbers' to know  .

I spent two minute trying to read

5h^2 + k^3
---------------
3h^3 + 2k^4

because the font was tiny.

I don't remember if that was the exact equation.
Hail the otters.

Um, I did simple addition to add up calories? Or is that not fancy enough? Shrug

sloo: "Fanservice is whatever you envision it to be. Do you think Todd Howard made Skyrim envisioning Nilla's utter lust for tentacles?

sloo:"I make every woman take a quiz. If she can't tell me the differences between Vivec and Sotha Sil I'm forced to push her off a cliff"

Nilla: "I hate Todd Howard because he killed Nerevar and Sotha Sil."
sloo: "Nerevar's on vacation and Sotha lives in a computer chill"

That's completely fine. Indeed, it's probably more useful than most of the calculations that I do  !

Calculated how long it would be until my train arrived :P

(It was 10:10, and my train was due at 10:21, so that would be 11 minutes)

Calculated that, in 3D noughts and crosses, there are 7 winning rows pass through each corner. And on a 4D noughts-and-crosses board, there would be 15.

(I actually calculated this without visualising a 4D noughts-and-crosses board would even look like  !!!!)

I do keep them in mind too. But more like until 215. After that, I didn't think it's worth it.

As for me, uh well if you want a fancy one, then differentiating  x to the power x to the power x. I also did 8/4 divided by 6/3, when I was teaching my brother the basic concepts of Fractions.

Ah, yes - I remember one of my fellow Oxford interviewees was asked to differentiate x^x^x  . Fortunately, it wasn't me!!!

But, yes - it's pretty rare that I have to use anything beyond 216 = 65536 (and even for the powers of 2 that I have memorised, I'm usually more interested in 2n-1 than 2n itself  !!!)
